Thanks for the tip! I will have to try that out. I got Misha as a gift. I was told that until she came to my house she had never been out of her kennel. So, everything from the house to the backyard was a new experience--and scary. At first, I really worried about her bolting because her first response was to flee whenever she heard a noise. She is doing much better now.

Sounds like Misha may have had some pretty bad experiences and wasn't socialized properly before you got her. But you're definitely doing the right thing by introducing her to new environments and situations slowly. You could try taking a recording of sounds that scare her and play them back to her, quietly at first and then gradually increase the volume to desensitize her.

I am so sorry about Sierra!!! She was so beautiful, and I am so fortunate that Sierra was able to touch my students as well as myself. I look at the pictures of her with my tears streaming and know SHE is what I want my students to learn................unconditional love, heroism, dedication, loyalty, bravery, and much more. I will tell them when school starts ......if we can help again in any way let us know.

I am so sorry to hear about Sierra. I was rooting for her when she got her wheelchair and was very shocked to hear about her passing tonight. I cried when I saw the pictures because it reminded me somewhat of Peanut (my dog) but at least I had some warning. Please know that i'm here if you or your girls ever need to talk. Congrats though on getting Misha--she will never replace Sierra but will help mend everyone's broken heart with new memories.

Hi Mel

As you know, I lost my little Bertie (cat, 16 years old, best friend) on 26/06/09 - a day I will never forget.

I'll miss him forever and every day there is something more I miss about my little man.

I've known Sierra since she was a pup, and you much longer - the same as you have known Bertie all these years.

Both were fighters and sadly this was one fight they both couldn't make.

Nice to think of them both running around at Rainbow Bridge waiting for us to arrive.

Take care and hope it gets easier for both of us.

Bye for now
Love Karen x

Dear Mel,

On behalf of the Handicapped Pets Foundation, we want to express our deepest sympathy for your loss of Sierra who was a truly unique and wonderful companion. We are so glad that she was able to enjoy her final days with the mobility assistance of the Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair, and we thank you for assisting us in our efforts to help other pets in need of wheelchairs.

We will promptly acknowledge all donations received in memory of Sierra to both the donor and to you.

Please take comfort in knowing that Sierra lived a very special life in your care. We are thinking of you.

Sincerely,
Lisa-Marie Mulkern

Melody, Sierra has to have been THE most loved dog I have ever seen. She was as lucky to be in your family as you were to have her. What a gentle sweet creature she was. Now she's enjoying her rewards. Thank you so much for sharing her life with us.
Take care Melody.

Sierra is an inspiration. If you donate her chair to a dog, I hope you will be able to post pictures of the receiver. Rest in peace Sierra.
